My 1st GEWN activity in Abu Dhabi!
Was so excited about it!!!!
It's obviously not the first event being held, but the first for me to join as the first one happened when I was seriously sick. The event is Cultural Lunch. Being in AD office, we have a lot of nationalities working together. So it really make sense to have this kind of lunch.
Each one of us has to bring a delicacy from our home country. Also the country flag. Then we have to teach the others to say something useful in home country language and tell something interesting that not many people knows.
I decided to bring........ NASI LEMAK!!!!! Yummy...
I printed out the flag but it was in the moving box and we're not able to unpack it. So no flag. But I explained that our flag is similar to USA except that we have 14 lines, and one star with 14 points and a half moon. That would work, right?
I taught them to say 'Terima Kasih'.
The interesting fact was Malaysian has a lot of races, ethnicity, and religion believers. We celebrate all kind of festivals. Eid, Chinese New Year, Deepavali, Christmas, and many more which end up of us having like 30 days of public holiday. They started going 'Waaaaahhhhhhhhh' at this point.. hehhehe.. And when you fill in any form, you will be asked Malaysian-Non Malaysian, Bumiputera-Non Bumiputera, Malay-Chinese-Indian-Others, Islam-Buddha-Hindu-Others, etc.. They started laughing at this point.
Others bringing:
Australian - Meat Pie
Egyptian - Kind of Murtabak (seriously murtabak)
American - New York Cheese Cake
Indian - Kind of putu mayam
South African - Kind of dessert (I LOVE THIS ONE. Am eating it while writing this post)
Emiratis - Chicken Khabsa
Can't wait for the next event to come!!!!
